How many people live in Concordia Parish and throughout America?

The U.S. Census Bureau will begin counting in two weeks when census forms arrive in the mail to 130 million American homes.

Census Bureau officials Renee McMillion Clark of the Dallas regional office and Nefertitti Rhondes of Monroe visited Concordia Parish on Monday to urge that residents take advantage of filling out the simple census forms that soon will be delivered by the postal service.

"It takes 10 minutes to answer 10 questions," said Clark. "The answers will affect the nation for the next 10 years. The form has been simplified although we do seek to collect as much data as possible."

The country's population is counted every 10 years.

While most Americans will fill out the forms and return them by mail, the Census Bureau will send census takers to the homes of residents who do not respond.

"We're still recruiting for census takers and those interested can contact us at 1-866-861-2010," said Clark. "These will be temporary jobs that pay $8 ti $24 per hour."

Completed census forms provide information on who is living in a home, the type of structure, the phone number, and the sex, age and race of household members. Clark said no personal information, such as Social Security, Drivers license, credit cards, income, etc... is sought.

Rhodes added that results of the census determines political representation through apportionment and federal dollars allocated to a region.
